Founded in 1957, Euro Coop, as the first consumer organisation in Europe, has made its expertise available to the European institutions for the promotion of consumer interests. It has developed close and privileged relations with, in particular, the European Commission, the European Parliament and the European Economic and Social Committee.

Today, Euro Coop represents and upholds the structure and ethics of the cooperative undertaking at European level. This activity is achived in particular, by its participation in EU Forums/working committees of the European Commission.

Exemples; European Retail Round Table "ERRT" and Retailers’ Environmental Action Programme "REAP", European Consumer Consultative Group "ECCG" DG Sanco, member of the Stakeholders Platform "EFSA", the "Advisory Group on the Food Chain and Animal and Plant Health", and The EU "Platform for Action on Diet, Physical Activity and Health" , etc...

During 2007 a new institutional arrangement was agreed between Euro Coop and the International Co-operative Alliance (ICA)in the sense that the former would give secretariat support to the work of the Consumer Co-operatives Worldwide (CCW) - the global sector organisation for consumer co-operatives - making it more effective. Euro Coop will, in the future, implement the strategy of CCW in the European region which means more coordination, less overlapping and an overall increase in results.
