Joint Letter for Stronger Role in Shaping EU's SFS Legislation

Joint Letter for Stronger Role in Shaping EU's SFS Legislation

Today, Euro Coop and other 30 leading EU food chain organisations sent a joint letter to the European Commission, urging greater involvement in the development of the legislative Framework for Sustainable Food Systems (FSFS).

Today, Euro Coop and other 30 EU food chain organisations sent a joint letter to the EU Commission expressing their concern about the limited ongoing dialogue regarding the legislative Framework for Sustainable Food Systems (FSFS), which is a key part of the Farm to Fork flagship initiative. The signatories called for greater involvement between the EU food chain and the EU Commission to ensure the successful establishment of the new EU Framework Legislation, given the ambition of FSFS to accelerate and facilitate the transition towards sustainable food systems.

The letter emphasised the need for a more precise scope for the FSFS framework to be effective, with a clear definition of sustainability that takes into account the diversity and realities of the agri-food chain.

Moreover, the signatories highlighted that any sustainable food system should ensure food and nutrition security, and emphasised the need for a proper assessment of potential costs and supports for the transition, involving all players in the agri-food value chain.
