Co-operative Retailers support the EU Ecolabel for tissue products

Euro Coop opposes the proposal made during the College of Commissioners meeting on 25th October, to discontinue the EU Ecolabel for the “Tissue Paper” Product Group. Uptake of the EU Ecolabel for tissue products can be considered to be very successful, with an extensive range of products bearing the label on the market.

Many of our members stock EU Ecolabel products, and some have their own private-label products that have used the EU Ecolabel since the 1990s.

As a recognized and rigorous standard, the EU Ecolabel allows retailers to buy trusted products from suppliers, and pass on that trust to our customers, who can in turn make informed decisions about what they buy.

We call on political leaders to retain the EU Ecolabel for Tissue Paper. The EU Ecolabel needs to be strengthened rather than dismantled.
