SOS Food
SOS Food - Sustainability Optimization for Secure Food Systems is a new Horizon project addressing the pressing need for a more productive, inclusive, sustainable, and resilient food system in the face of the current environmental emergency. Leveraging data exploitation and AI-based technologies, SOSFood aims to provide a comprehensive understanding of the EU food system and develop tailored predictive tools to support informed decision-making by all stakeholders across the food chain.
The project brings together a multidisciplinary consortium of experts from the private and public sectors, academia, and food system representatives.
By adopting a multi-factorial, multi-actor, and multi-scale approach, SOSFood seeks to fill the gap left by previous initiatives by offering a consolidated food data space focused on sustainability and health.
SOS Food's objectives include creating a network to gather diverse data types, mapping the food system scenario using advanced impact analysis and AI technologies, and co-designing decision-making tools tailored to each user's context and priorities. These tools include a predictive dashboard for industries and a mobile app for consumers, featuring eco-healthy fingerprint visualization, greening indicators for industries, reformulated European recipes, and general recommendations.
Ultimately, SOS Food aims to empower all actors along the food supply chain to make evidence-based, sustainable decisions by identifying causal factors affecting their activities and offering specific suggestions for improvement. Through field case studies and validation processes, the project ensures the viability and representativeness of its solutions, contributing to a more resilient and sustainable food system for the future.
As part of the consortium, Euro Coop is committed to actively participating in the SOS Food project, particularly in three key areas outlined in the project plan. Euro Coop pledges to engage with relevent food system stakeholders as part of the stakeholder participation phase. This involvement aims to identify challenges in transitioning food production towards sustainability, ensuring representation from various sectors of the industry. Moreover, Euro Coop commits to engaging food stakeholders and preparing comprehensive lists of information needed to identify common ground and differences within and among groups. Through face-to-face meetings, Euro Coop will gather valuable insights to inform the development of other project parts. Euro Coop will be also organising the European Food Stakeholders Meeting to be held in Brussels.
