Consumer Cooperatives for Sustainable Development: Celebrating CoopsDay 2023

Consumer Cooperatives for Sustainable Development

Euro Coop is thrilled to join the global celebration of #CoopsDay 2023. With great enthusiasm, we embrace this year's theme, "Cooperatives for Sustainable Development," as it underscores the unwavering dedication of cooperatives in striving toward the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
Consumer cooperatives are driven by a mission to positively impact society. They prioritise fair trade practices, providing their workers with inclusive employment opportunities and fair wages. They also emphasise responsible consumption and production by offering their members sustainable and ethically sourced products, encouraging mindful consumer choices. Additionally, they are committed to environmental sustainability by adopting renewable energy sources, reducing carbon footprints, and implementing eco-friendly practices in their operations.
Promoting social inclusivity, consumer cooperatives ensure affordable access to goods and services for everyone, irrespective of income or background, aiming to reduce inequalities.

We work collectively with our members to build sustainable societies, focusing on economic prosperity, environmental stewardship, and social inclusivity. Guided by our cooperative values and principles, we are dedicated to fostering sustainable development and positively impacting the world.

Our President's Address

"Our most meaningful contribution to sustainable food systems is improving the food environment by empowering consumers to make informed choices and by restructuring economic operations to adhere to maximum sustainability, while contributing to food availability and affordability. We collaborate with policymakers for an enabling environment and establish partnerships along the food system, because it is only through co-operation that the green transition and UN SDGs can be attained!"

Todor Ivanov,
Secretary General
